Barr. George Turnah, zonal secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South South, has celebrated students of Community Secondary School Kolo for coming third position in the just concluded Bayelsa State Secondary Schools Debate Competition.

He noted that the students’ triumph is a testament to their commitment to academic excellence, which he said serves as an inspiration to all in the Kolo community.

Turnah stated this in his address during the civic reception event organized by the Kolo Youth Movement (KYM) to honour the students who participated in the state inter-school debate which was held on Thursday.

The PDP chieftain commended the students for their hard work, dedication and resilience as well as their achievement in the competition, describing it as “no small feat.”

He lauded the organizers of the civic reception which was held at the CSS Kolo auditorium in Kolo.

He added that “it is through such initiatives that we can foster the growth of our youth and promote the values of knowledge, critical thinking, and effective communication.”

He announced the reward of the students, staff, and the school principal with a cash gift in various sums as a token of appreciation for their efforts.

The PDP zonal scribe also pledged to construct a befitting toilet facility within the school premises for the use of both staff and students.

“Access to proper sanitation is fundamental to fostering a healthy learning environment, and I am determined to ensure that our school meets these essential needs,” said Turnah who is also a Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).

Turnah also applauded the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the ongoing construction of a modern corpers lodge and quarters for the heads of public schools in Kolo as well as the Bayelsa state ministry of education for their foresight in organizing the debate program.

In the words of Turnah: “Allow me to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for the ongoing construction of a modern Corpers Lodge and quarters for the heads of public schools in Kolo, amongst several other ongoing projects awarded by the visionary Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director/CEO of the NDDC.

“His support and commitment to enhancing the infrastructural needs and development of Kolo is invaluable to us, and I am certain that the ongoing projects will undoubtedly enhance the educational landscape in our community.

“Let me also very sincerely extend my appreciation to the Bayelsa State Government, particularly the Ministry of Education, for the foresight in organizing the debate program.”

Such initiatives, Turnah insists, would not only sharpen the students’ minds but also prepare them for future leadership roles.

“I therefore urge the government to continue the sponsorship of programs that empower our youth, as they are the leaders of tomorrow,” he said.

Further speaking, Turnah assured the school principal, teachers, and students of the school of his unwavering readiness to support the school whenever necessary, especially in the area of sports and recreation.

He also proposed the creation of the George Turnah House which he promised to fully sponsor to encourage participation in inter-house sports competitions in the school.

The politician urged the school as well as the Kolo community to celebrate their achievements and together build a brighter future for all in the community.
