Clears Outstanding Fees for 54 students

A total of 54 students of Federal University Otuoke from different states of the Federation were on the verge of deferring studies to the next academic session and losing their studentship due to the inability to pay the mandatory tuition fee. But hope came when the George Turnah Foundation came to their rescue

The school, in line with its rules and regulations, had earlier closed its payment portal on the 5th of February, 2015, after a two-week grace period. The grace period, which came with an additional charge of N5000, was set as a penalty for those who could not beat the deadline. Those who could not meet both the tuition and penalty fees were on the verge of losing their studentship in the university.

However, following an outcry by some affected and concerned students of the institution, the Founder and Patron of the Foundation, Barr. George Turnah directed that the N63,000 tuition fee and N5,000 penalty charge be cleared by the foundation for both Bayelsa and non-Bayelsa State students of the University.

Speaking to Journalists, some of the beneficiaries thanked the George Turnah Foundation for the humanitarian gesture. A 200-level student of Biological sciences Miss Azibator Felix, in tears, narrated thus “I do not know how to thank the George Turnah Foundation enough, my life and educational pursuit was threatened but now am happy again, may God bless George Turnah abundantly”
Another beneficiary, Omiloli Raphael, a 300-level student of History, also thanked the George Turnah Foundation for the support.

Some spectators who spoke on the sideline showered encomium on the Foundation and encouraged more youths to key into the numerous opportunities that are directed towards youth empowerment by the Jonathan administration to produce more George Turnah for the nation.

The Chairman of the Foundation, Barr. George Turnah, who was ably represented by the Foundation’s Secretary/Legal Adviser, Barr. Nelson Abali while thanking the institution for their support and cooperation, disclosed that the gesture was in line with its Education for the Poor and Needy Policy and was touched by the plight of the students and decided to come to their rescue to keep their aspirations alive

Also, in their separate remarks, the Registrar of the Institution, Sir David Suowari and the Students Union Government President commended the George Turnah Foundation and its Chairman Barr. George Alabh Turnah MON in superlative terms for lifting the huge burden off the shoulders of parents and guardians of the beneficiaries, describing it as a laudable effort not only for the institution and its students but also for posterity. They also enjoined other well-meaning Nigerians and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) to borrow a leaf from Barr. Turnah and his Foundation, has, since its inception, been touching lives through humanitarian and social aid.
