Yenagoa, Nigeria – The Bayelsa State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has extended high commendations to the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, for what it described as a “sterling representation and exceptional commitment to youth empowerment” in his constituency of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.
In a press statement signed by the Acting Chairman of the Bayelsa PDP, Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON, the party commended Hon. Chinda’s recently concluded empowerment program, which trained a large number of young constituents in various vocational and entrepreneurial skills.
The skills covered included fish farming, cassava and corn flour processing, hair barbing, and makeup artistry. Participants were also equipped with starter packs to begin their businesses immediately.
According to the statement, “Hon. Chinda’s recent empowerment program, which equipped a significant number of young constituents with vocational and entrepreneurial skills, ranging from fish farming, cassava and corn flour processing, to hair barbing and makeup artistry, alongside the provision of starter packs, is a laudable model of people-oriented leadership. This is the kind of representation the PDP prides itself on: one that touches lives directly and prepares young people not just to survive, but to thrive.”
The Barr. Turnah-led Bayelsa PDP emphasized the importance of such initiatives in a time of economic hardship and growing unemployment across the country. “At a time when the nation is grappling with economic uncertainty and rising unemployment, Hon. Chinda has chosen the path of sustainable intervention. Rather than offering temporary palliatives, he is building capacity, fostering innovation, and creating pathways to self-reliance and economic resilience among the youth.”
The party further noted that the initiative is more than just an empowerment scheme but a “visionary investment in the future” of not only Obio/Akpor but the broader South-South region. “Hon. Chinda has again proven that representation is not about occupying office but about delivering impact. His passion for service, legislative excellence, and grassroots engagement sets a benchmark worthy of emulation across all levels of governance.”
Describing Hon. Chinda’s leadership as aligned with the PDP’s core values, Turnah reaffirmed the party’s solidarity with him and expressed pride in his contributions to democratic governance and community development. “As a sister chapter in the South-South zone, the Bayelsa State PDP takes immense pride in the achievements of Hon. Chinda and the towering example he continues to set in democratic leadership. We reaffirm our solidarity with him and applaud his unwavering dedication to the ideals of the PDP and the upliftment of the Nigerian people.”
The statement also served as a call to action for other public office holders, especially those under the PDP, to emulate the example set by Hon. Chinda. “We encourage other elected officials, particularly within our great party, to take a cue from this remarkable effort and replicate similar programs tailored to the needs of their respective constituencies.”
Barr. Turnah expressed gratitude to Hon. Chinda on behalf of the Bayelsa PDP. “Thank you, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda, for redefining public service with purpose and compassion.”
The development has sparked positive reactions within and outside the PDP fold, with political observers noting it as a shining example of what political representation should look like in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
